  • Question: Johnny, true or false? Did a Bowery Boys’ movie, starring Leo Gorcey and Huntz Hall, ever get nominated for an Oscar®? – and while you are thinking...

  • Answer: Yes, it's true. In 1956, the Academy of Motion Pictures nominated the MGM blockbuster musical High Society for an Oscar® in recognition of the film's screenplay. Unfortunately, someone at the Academy goofed and sent a registered letter to the writers of The Bowery Boys movie High Society, which coincidentally was released the same year. These gentlemen notified the Academy of their mistake and the error was immediately rectified.
